The wave of asset declaration has found its way into the Nigerian
police as men of the force have been ordered by the federal government
to declare their asses.
President Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo began their
administration by declaring their asset in a gesture of transparency and
this this has moved to other government parastatal with the police
force being the latest one.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the offices of the Code of Conduct
Bureau (CCB) expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance shown by
the customs service but expressed displeasure at the non-compliance of
the police.
A CCB official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that
although the level of compliance by senior police officers had been
satisfactory, the rank and file had been largely defiant, apparently
unaware of the legal implication of their attitude.
It was reported that the CCB has written commissioners of police to
warn them of the implication of their men’s refusal to declare their
assets.
However, the 14 day deadline given by the comptroller general of the
Nigeria Customs Service to officers to declare their assets may be flouted by some men of the service
